Gstaad is a village in the German-speaking section of the Canton of Berne in southwestern Switzerland.
Part of the municipality of Saanen, Gstaad is known as one of the most exclusive and expensive resorts
and a great place for skiing. There is a HUGE amount of cross country terrain to enjoy all about
Gstaad
as well as great options for all types of downhill skiing or snowboarding.
Above is a Google™ Street View image which you can rotate
and move about of the endless
expance for winter
cross country skiing or a long walk between
say Lenk and Gstaad.
( Distance is about 5 hours and 30 minutes by foot).
Gstaad's Tourist Office can provide you with a detailed ski maps (and or this weblink is an example
of such a map). You will note that this page has maps which you can use, now, here. Per example the
Gooogle™ Street View is NOT yet done for Gstaad but you can travel all about the greater Gstaad area
virtually. You can also move and or slide maps to focus on other details.
TIP : GSTAAD SKI INFORMATION CAN BE PICKED UP (AND SHOULD BE OBTAINED) FROM LOCALS. GO INTO A GSTAAD
PHARMACIE AND ASK ABOUT THE BEST SKIING IN THE GSTAAD SAANEN AREA. OR GO INTO A GSTAAD RESTAURANT
AND STRIKE UP A CONVERSTATION
ABOUT SKIING. GSTAAD SKI INFORMATION IS NOT JUST OBTAINED FROM THE TOURISM
OFFICE !

SKI GSTAAD:
Downhill skiing in Gstaad requires that you choose several Gstaad ski areas that are accessible from the village.
On maps these areas are called "Sektors" and you will benefit by viewing this pdf document Gstaad and
Saanenland

area would best relate to
your skiing talents and ... most importantly which pass to purchase. The finest

Generally Sektor 5 in Gsteig and Sektor 2 in the Wispile area are right above Gstaad and Sektor 4 are a
bit
further (sectkor 4 includes the Gacier des Diablerets, and the Col du Pillon ). Be attentive to altitude.
Gstaad is at 1050 meters above see level. Gsteig is at 1184 meters above sea level and the Glacier des
Diablerets is at 3210 meters above sea level. If you plan to take a helicopter to reach the glacier be
attentive to the weather reports BEFORE leaving for your destination. You can be amazed how 1800
plus meters changes weather conditions !!
